(5,393 posts)This doesnt give away the answer:
Along with George, the other members of the Bedbugs were played by guitarists Warren S. Klein (who was in the Stooges circa 1973) and Martin F. Kibbee; and future Little Feat drummer Richie Hayward. At the time, the four of them were collectively known as The Factory. Frank Zappa would produce two songs for the group, which remained unreleased until 1993s Lightning-Rod Man anthology.
Lowell had a couple lines of dialogue before playing with The Bedbugs in the mystery show.

(53,190 posts)There are two answers to this. Either one is fine.
Brother Buzz
(39,895 posts)And it turns out Ringo had a thing about cymbals; he was always changing them, chasing that certain sound he wanted, but there was mention in one article about his pre Beatles drum kit being Premier. I don't know when he switched over to Ludwig, but he was a solid Ludwig boy by the time they splashed in America.
Did Ringo play two different Ludwig drum kits?
I'm always amused Ringo, a left-handed drummer playing a right-handed kit, pissed off a ton of drummers because he produced a signature off beat sound that was really hard to replicate.
jmowreader
(53,190 posts)Up through the time they made the Please Please Me album he had a Premier Duroplastic kit. In the early 1960s plastic drum shells were pretty popular. This rig had one rack Tom and one floor Tom plus bass and snare.
He changed to the Ludwig Downbeat for With the Beatles and A Hard Days Night. Still a four-piece, it used a Jazz Festival snare, which he used the same one of the rest of his career. This is where the two answers thing kicks in - because he didnt want to haul all his drums to the US he bought identical toms and bass once he got to the US and brought his snare with him. This is pretty common among big-name drummers, falling in love with one snare drum and using it on many sets.
From that point until they started working on the White Album he used the Super Classic kit. Still a four-piece, the difference is all the drums are a little larger. For The Beatles US tour he bought another one.
Both these kits had the Oyster Black Pearl wrap Ludwig sold a lot of back then but no longer offers, I dont know why they stopped.
On September 11, 1968, Ringo took delivery of a Hollywood set in natural maple finish and used it for the rest of The Beatles existence. This kit has two rack toms.
So
either four or six kits depending on how you count them.

at Stax Studios in Memphis, TN. just days before his death.
Besides Cropper, who else was with him as he wrote the song?
(Besides Stax Records producers etc.)
Brother Buzz
(39,895 posts)on Bill Graham's houseboat. Otis Redding (and backed up by Steve Cropper) had just finished up at the '67 Monterey Pop Festival and Graham was able to book him for a gig in SF the following weekend and offered the houseboat to Redding and Cropper.
As to your specific question, I'd hazard a guess and say Isaac Hayes. Curiously, Cropper recruited Isaac Hayes to replace the college bound Booker T. as a Stax session keyboardist. Possible the smartest thing Cropper ever did was pairing Hayes and Porter together and setting them loose.
Side note: Stuart Brand (Whole Earth Catalog) purchased the table that Otis Redding purportedly wrote "The Dock of the Bay" on from a reputable Sausalito antique store owned by Julia Child's sister (She was about a half an inch taller then Julia).

(33,062 posts)You're right.
He had performed at the '67 Monterey Pop Festival in June, just weeks before his stay on Bill Graham's Sausalito houseboat in August, where he started writing the song.
He & Stax producer Steve Cropper completed the song & recorded it in Memphis, just 3 days before the plane crash on December 10, 1967.
"It was released on Stax Records 'Volt' label in 1968, becoming the first posthumous #1 single in the US.
It reached # 3 on the UK Singles Chart."
