The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsGreat day for a DU meet up...
multigraincracker and his wife, Lori came to visit yesterday afternoon. After visiting yard sales around Hale they stopped in for a visit. We toured our humble garden and chatted about various subjects but in truth stayed away from politics. It was a very pleasant afternoon in regards to the weather and especially the company.
Tall boy in the hat is multigraincracker, short dude is yours truly, Lori, mgcs wife, is in front.

(99,634 posts)I've had two in the past couple years, one from Florida and one from Maine!
Glad the weather was nice and you had a good visit.

(99,634 posts)I was thinking of you as I put my garden together earlier this month. I inherited a 4'x25' patch in my buddy's yard to plant a real garden this year. We tilled it just before the new moon and I planted just hours after. I added a few bags of chicken manure and laid straw over the soil. It's in a better place than last year as far as sun exposure. We've also been getting rain every few days, so far, with rather warm days in between. I can't believe that my nasturtiums, seeds!, are already up so I'm excited about the whole set up. Now we have some cool air coming in from the NW and it will be much different than what you're facing this week.
My buddy just retired so I can get him to do more of the maintenance later on when I go for a drive later this summer. I know he'll go camping a time or two so it will be a trade off.

(12,533 posts)Those hard as diamond so-called squashes were thrown into the field in back of the garden. This spring I noticed something out there blowing around in the wind
it was the hallowed out remains of the squash just the hard gourd like shell, the critters in the field ate the insides. Went to good use
we can all use a little help sometimes.
At least someone was able to make use of them!

(27,800 posts)Hope you stay cool, today! It looks like the temperature forecast in Genesee County has been scaled back from the high 90's to the low 90's. Still going to be very roasty!

(27,800 posts)I might leave a trail of them that leads directly to my chaise lounge chair, where I intend to spend time, in the shade, sipping on cold beverages while reading a book. Or, maybe watching a movie. Depends on my mood.
Our forecast shows no rain until Friday. Possibly. Who knows.

(12,533 posts)Outside we have the shade of a walnut tree and cooler breezes
for today about 83 but tomorrow the heat increases for a couple days, yeah 90s
may take the day off and go kayaking.

(129,313 posts)As for your "humble garden", mine is just the size of the bed you three are standing in front of. Half of my tomatoes are doing very well, so I hope the others catch up!

(12,533 posts)Its not about the size
its the connection to our food, which is us, in a way. I love to experiment when I grow.
