The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsOkay, how many do YOU have on ignore?
I have 3. But only for entering every thread like a bull in a china shop and countering every argument with a wall of text. I'm happy to be blissfully unaware of their posts.
I'm unlikely to add anymore. I'm generally against blocking other users. I've argued with people, even had them tell me to fuck off, and later ended up being friends with them. (I've even laughed a few times when people aimed a profanity-laden post at me.)

(156,620 posts)One came off at once, as I realized the person was not going to be a problem.
The other one came off the list later, when I realized the same thing about that person.
I really rarely use it. I'm usually too curious to see what they're saying!

(12,132 posts)when I worked at 6 Flags Over Texas in the early 80s there was a convenience store behind the employee parking lot that sold Lone Star for 5 bucks a case. That was a pretty important quality in a beer for us poor minimum wagers. My friend always complained it tasted like refried beans and I never could understand why that was a bad thing. I love refried beans!
Nowadays when I want to relive the old days I go get some BBQ brisket and a Shiner Bock.
But that's only because I can't find Lone Star in Florida.

... Old Milwaukee for $3 until 2 AM. I had a SERIOUS reputation for
not EVER wanting the party to end. When we were down to Old
Milwaukee -- the party was OVER for me.
.
Medic training at Ft Sam Houston outside of San Antonio -- the
lunch trucks (after 4 PM) would come around with HUNDREDS of
Lone Stars and Pearls stuck in crushed ice.
.
I tried one of each and learned it can't get HOT enough to make
one of those beers palatable -- and I'm no beer snob... one of my
favorites now is Miller High Life Light (not Lite) in a bottle.

So refreshing and tasty -- reminds me of the best beer I've ever
had -- at a microbrewery in Moab, Utah.

(12,132 posts)I once had a room-mate (during those same Lone Star Six Flags days) who drank nothing but MHL and that summbitch still owes me 180 bucks for rent. I can't see it without thinking of him and it irritates me to no end.
It's been thirty years ago. I should prolly let it go.

(113,971 posts)My peeve is those who continue to argue, when there is nothing to argue--no point of disagreement... As though they have some bizarre need to be "hyper-right." (sanctimonious). There are a couple of those, I am sorely tempted to ignore, I must say. But, I haven't...

(11,700 posts)internet argument. When you've already made your points, why keep going? But some people seem to enjoy it. When it turns into nothing more than getting the last word in I make a flippant post and go on my merry way.

(41,453 posts)I had two on my list at one point, but one got TS'd.
I don't put people on iggy very easily. To achieve that hallowed status, people have to not just hold views to which I object, or to be rude, or even to engage in personal attacks. They have to actively bait. If people come along gratuitously taunting or trying to get a rise out me, or more generally of a group with different views to themselves, that's when I'll decide that iggy is best.

(56,108 posts)No-one on ignore, but ignored by one as of yesterday, and "PM ignore" by three, which I find odd as I rarely PM people unless PM'd first. Though, there are a few exceptions.
I think ignore lists should alse be made transparent. Just my opinion.

(24,857 posts)But...during the 2004 Democratic primaries, I had one of the rudest posters on ignore who continuously got away with insulting other DUers. I kid you not, every post he/she posted had a I'm-the-smartest-person-here-&-you're-not-&-I'll-tell-you-why tone. When someone merely stated a different opinion, he/she gave them the Triumph-the-Insult-Dog treatment, complete with a potty-mouth vocabulary. It was all the more embarrassing when the insulted poster seemed unfamiliar with the rude poster & was obviously taken aback.

(12,678 posts)I used to have a huge Ignore list, but now that I'm a Host, that seems like a bad idea. Plus, if you put someone on Ignore, you can't be on a jury for any of their posts.
susanr516
(1,512 posts)because both have been creating multiple threads on what I consider to be a fairly trivial issue. I usually don't leave anyone on ignore more than a week or two. In many cases, I find they have been banned. No one is ignoring me, but I don't post a lot.

(32,988 posts)When we switched to DU3, I took off a couple. Usually, the same two or three end up on ignore. There are a couple that I won't put on ignore, no matter how bad they get. I am biding my time. They will be shown up as trolls sooner or later, and I want to witness it.
The people I sometimes have on ignore are not there because they disagree with me. They are on ignore because they disagree via personal attack. One of them is a respected DU member.
Some people just get away with anything. They are not necessarily always repubs.

(34,914 posts)I prefer to hide annoying threads rather than individuals. It's usually the same handful of attention-hungry serial posters that have their threads hidden, but every once in a while, they have something useful to say.
I don't like the "walls of text", either. Too hard on the eyes. Unless they provide a link where I can read at the source, I tend to just scroll over them.

I just found out that 3 people have me on ignore.
Guess I"m not as nice as I thought.
I have a friend that's conservative....the first time we ever met it was full on verbal brawl. We ended up being friends, we rarely discuss politics and when we do, we jab each other. He'll never change my mind, I'll never change his. He was a great friend when I lost my granny this year.
I know we're not supposed to have cons as friends, but for some reason we are. He's my only con friend too.

(12,132 posts)lol, well not much. My co-worker and friend is an atheist tea bagger repub. I don't understand it and I stopped trying. But he didn't even hesitate on his day off to come help me dig out my septic tank and replace a sump pump. I don't know if you've ever been in a septic tank but it takes a pretty damn good friend to volunteer to help with that shit.
