It also was not available in Wisconsin in the late 70s.
So, I think it was a regional drink. I always thought it had a slightly bitter taste.

When I was young and growing up in Texas, we called everything "Coke". I remember us saying, "What kind of ''Coke" do you want?"

(40,578 posts)My roommate was from New Jersey. We were hanging around with the two girls from Cleveland in the next dorm room. One of the Cleveland girls said, lets go downstairs and check out the pop machine. So Jersey girl got a strange look on her face but said nothing, and we all filed down to the lobby to get some cold pop out of the machine. She said, oh, you mean soda. Yes, yes, we call it pop here. She said she thought she heard us wrong and thought we said POT machine! She said, I knew things were pretty free and easy here but I couldnt believe they would have a pot machine in the dorm!

(26,507 posts)Then Coke made the brilliant (sarcasm) decision to take it off the market.
When it was available - they didn't do anything to market it to the public.
When I was buying it when it was available - you'd be surprised how many people saw me put it in my cart and asked me about it.
They didn't know that the product even existed. I had to talk it up to those people so they could try it. These were both Coke customers and coffee aficionado's.
Coke didn't even give the product an awareness and a chance to catch on.
I question their marketing capabilities after I saw what they did to this product.
They could still redeem themselves if they re-marketed the product now and gave it the type of promotional campaign that it deserves.
It was a good product that was shelved before it even had a chance to shine.

I'm a Pepper ...
Sixty-plus years ago, when I was a kid, I remember people who didn't like Dr Pepper would complain that it "tastes like medicine". Well, I LOVE that flavor that causes people to complain that it "tastes like medicine".
I also like Nehi, especially Nehi Grape Soda. You can still get Nehi sodas at Cracker Barrel, but I haven't seen Nehi anywhere else in decades.
Incidentally, there was some discussion earlier in this thread as to whether to call it "soda" or "pop". I've always called them "soft drinks".

My favorite (and I drink it only on special occasions) is Diet Coke.
My normal drink is Fresca. It used to be Diet Squirt but it was almost impossible to find during the Pandemic so I thought I'd give Fresca a shot. I ended up loving it!

(29,406 posts)I mix it 1/3 with 2/3 Trader Joe's green tea and lemonade drink. I put about an inch of the green tea/lemonade stuff a glass, and put the glass in the freezer long enough for the beverage to get kind of slushy, and then add the rest of the green tea-lemonade and the grapefruit drink - it's particularly refreshing when icy cold like that.
T Joe's Villa Italia blood orange soda is quite good, too. Sweeter than the grapefruit drink.
I haven't had a soft drink in decades, mostly because I don't particularly like them. If I were to want a Coke, it would have to be the kind made in Mexico with real sugar and in the iconic green glass bottles.

(9,083 posts)my class always had Coca Cola in glass bottles at the end of the day. A favorite activity of ours was to hold the glasses up and see the bottling locations at the bottom of the bottle. We made a game of this--the person whose bottle was bottled the furthest away "won" for that day. I once won for having a bottle from Cheyenne, WY (this was in GA/US).
