(2,979 posts)Wearing socks with sandals has to be the most ludicrous fashion misstatement one can make.
It just looks silly.
JMHO.

(3,306 posts)When we lived in Seattle I had a sock guy that hooked me up with wool and wool blend socks in many colors. My work wardrobe consisted of khakis, collared shirts and Teva sandals. Being in the office I wore socks with the Tevas. Nowadays I have a drawer of socks that can pair nicely with most any outfit I wear.
But earlier today I was without socks in sandals. Had a contractor by for estimates and he kept eye balling my purple toenails. So Ill be wearing a pair of dark green woolies and Tevas to the DVE Comedy Festival at the Byham tonight. And shorts. Geeze, its hot out there!

(7,389 posts)it's cold enough for me to do this for maybe 1 week each year. I bought a pair of the shearling lined Arizonas last year, and man do they keep your feet toasty - no socks needed.

(12,121 posts)1. Most summer sandals (not all brands) don't support whatever causes most people's foot problems. There are brands out there that do support where people need it but I still won't wear them because people can still see my feet.
2. I hate hate hate (again not all styles have these) the thong that sits between the this little piggy went to the market and this little piggy stayed home toes. Super uncomfortable for me and I don't like things touching my toes. In fact when I start any new relationship I always ask, "You're not one of those toe suckers are you?" Yes, I've encountered a few toe suckers in my romantic life.
3. I don't like my feet almost naked for the whole world to see. I like my Asics sneakers and slip on Skechers tennis shoes.

(26,113 posts)My sister has feet problems and wears tennis shoes with thick socks all the time when she's outside her house. I dislike tennis shoes, they make my feet hot if it ism't winter time. If it's cold enough, I can wear them all day, otherwise they come off soon as I'm done with my walk. In fact, I even got walking sandals for the summer, I live in FL and love my Tevas, they are very adjustable to fit my weird feet and so comfortable. I used to love going barefoot and did that most of the time when i wasn't at work - but no more. Being old and living in a house with all porcelain floors has made me change. I now have found some really comfortable Clarks' sandals that are adjustable in 3 places and I wear them all the time. Sandals work so much better with my weird toes and feet!

(12,121 posts)I use to go barefoot in my youth as well, and that's where my problems began.

(9,937 posts)I don't like sandals or flip flops. I wear easy I spirit slides, sometimes with socks, sometimes without.
I have tripped in them . something about the way I walk.

(6,472 posts)Im old enough not to give a rats ass about whether I look silly. My feet get hot and socks feel good.
Well, not with flip flops!
(But when I was in Japan, the onsen gave us all split-toed socks to wear with the sandals we were required to wear indoors.)

(14,624 posts)Defeats the whole purpose of sandals. I am a "get out of these shoes and into sandals" as soon as it gets warm---except on the days I have to go tend the kitties, of course, or if I have to walk miles and miles.

(2,373 posts)Wearing socks with sandals helps folks from Idaho, Texas and certain Midwestern states identify each other when on vacation. Then they can quickly meet up and wander around together for mutual protection should they encounter the homeless or gays, lesbians or people of color in tourist cities like LA, San Francisco, New York, or Portland.

(11,364 posts)My husband thought I was weird until we went to Tampa to visit a friend right after Christmas one year. Me, my friend and her husband were outside one evening burning one in the damp, chilly sixtysomething degree weather and my husband (wearing shorts, a t-shirt and flip flops, no socks) looked down and said, "oh that's where she gets it." We three were all wearing socks and flip flops

(77,271 posts)I never wear sandals (i have a pair of flip-flops), except maybe to take the garbage out. So, I sometimes have socks, sometimes not.
I have a really high instep so sandals or flip-flops don't fit well. I can't keep them on my feet!
