Dumb question about passport

I'm reading the gov website my head is swimming. I had a passport. It expired. What status is that? Renew? New passport? I'm clueless. What do I do?

I take meds that affect my cognitive ability sometimes!
I'll probably have to apply in person now? Anyone use a service?

Unless you are in one of these categories:

Determine if you can renew your passport
If any of the following are true, you cannot renew your U.S. passport and must instead apply for a new passport in person using Form DS-11:
Issued before your 16th birthday
Issued more than 15 years ago
Damaged, lost, or stolen. Learn how to report a lost or stolen passport.
Issued in your previous name, and you do not have a legal document like a marriage license to prove your legal name change
If none of the above situations are true, you can renew your U.S. passport.

1. Your passport expired less than 5 years ago
2. Your passport original date is less than 15 years ago.
So, if it was me, if your passport expired less than 5 years ago, I'd proceed with renewal.

You will need a list of documents to prove citizenship. It's on their website somewhere.

I went to my local Walgreens and got a new picture and I think Costco also does pictures.
