I'm rewatching on Britbox. He's chauvinist. SPOILER
I cannot rewatch the episode where he dies and Lewis kisses his forehead. Dirty doing at Oxford. Watched all of Lewis. Hoping Endeavour will come on Britbox. I don't get pbs' passport. Anyone have shows similar to Morse you recommend?

(3,736 posts)I love British mysteries, and Morse was one of the first that I watched. I enjoyed his rather quirky ways, and he was a bit chauvinistic. The shows had great stories with good twists, and Lewis was an enjoyable sidekick. But I liked Lewis better, perhaps because it was a tad more modern but still had the same vibe. Lewis could be a bit testy at times. I thoroughly enjoyed Endeavor, which you should be able to find on Amazon Prime. The actor who played young Morse is excellent as you watch the older Morse's personality develop, and I love the actor who plays his commander. Great show! I hope you can watch it!
You might want to subscribe to Britbox or Acorn for the really good detective shows. Grace, in its fourth season on Britbox, is very much like Lewis. One of my favorites is Line of Duty. While much more intense than Morse or Lewis, and I mean intense, it is a police procedural story with excellent acting and scripts. Do they take some liberties in creating somewhat implausible stories, a bit but still superb. There are too many good detective shows from Britain, Australia, and New Zealand.
Happy viewing!

(25,580 posts)I loved Morse. You may like George Gently and Foyle'sWar. I liked his sidekick too:
Burned through them. I'm a lost cause. I inhale them. The whole seasons are not available, but Above Suspicion on BB with Kelly Reilly and Ciaran Hinds is pretty good

(12,752 posts)McDonald and Dobbs, Grace, DCI Banks, Luther, Vera, Shetland, Hope Street, Blue Lights, for fun- Nwe Tricks, Pie in the Sky, The newer Father Brown.
I liked Death in Paradise and White Chapel but after a while they jumped the shark for me.
Add Prime Suspect, Cracker, and Silent Witness to the list of great shows.
This should keep you busy and engaged.
Then there's the lawyer shows.
Darn I see you have Acorn, so, Harry Wild, Agatha Raisin, Dalglish, Murdoch Murders, Browkenwood Mysteries, My Life Is Murder,

(15,772 posts)One of the leads was on The Sweeney. Also on Britbox with John Thaw. Love PITS. truly cozy mystery. Richard Griffits was also on Morse in the Satanic episode.

I also like who done its that you don't have to pay attention to every second, such as Monk and The Father Dowling Mysteries. whatever you do, do not watch the American transplant of Cracker. It is so unwatchable.

(72,301 posts)We noped out of "Morse" pretty quickly. The stories were stupid and boring, and the aging Morse was always ogling young women and girls. Creepy. It's like he wasn't even the same guy.

(12,752 posts)Brenda Blethyn really brought Vera to life for me. I have to say that the British do a great job when adapting from books to film. They really stay true to the characters as build by the authors. Not so with Hollywood, UGH!

(54,132 posts)surgery and perfect teeth, are rarely believable as a character. It's funny about Brenda Blethyn. I watched one of her early acting roles (the name of which is lost down the memory hole at the moment) and she looked exactly like me in my early 20's. It was like watching a twin on screen. It shook me so much I tried to research the family tree a little more since my roots are over there. I never found anything to indicate we were related, but I guess I found my doppelganger.

(18,589 posts)Oh, wrong Morse. Well, Robert Morse was a pretty good little actor there in the mid-sixties, he had a number of good flicks.
Liked him on "Mad Men," too.
