I went to work this morning for my regular four-hour shift at the clinic and started feeling really bad. I've been having what I thought was bad allergies, but just to be sure, I stopped by the pharmacy on way out and grabbed a test. It was positive within two minutes. Glad I was wearing a mask all day, but I know I still possibly exposed my co-workers.

(9,707 posts)I've been told that it should be available in the next month or two (Aug/Sep)
I wonder if there will be new tests required to detect the newer variants, or if the existing tests are still effective. I have a bunch old tests that are expired (the ones that were mailed to me periodically) and I don't know what to do with those, assuming they're useless. Can they just be tossed in the trash?

(1,297 posts)Also, my doc said Moderna was coming out with a new combined flu and Covid booster in the fall when flu shots usually come out. It will be good for the newest Covid and flu strains although I dont know if it will be the HD flu shot recommended for seniors.

(16,988 posts)I had to report the illness since I work at the clinic. The nurse had my doctor call me and he's at home with covid, too. He said if we have the same strain, it will be pretty miserable for 36 hours and then gradually better. It's going to be a yucky weekend, but at least I don't have to work this weekend, as usual. My doc put the kibosh on working until w/o fever for more than twenty-four hours without antipyretics.

(24,723 posts)Paxlovid got me up and about in a day. My Dr didn't even want to see me, just prescribed it based on the way I sounded on the phone.

(10,142 posts)Got it a month ago. Husband was sick first with a cold (he thought) and then I got it but felt worse. We were planning a trip to see our son, his pregnant wife and their toddler. Figured I better test just in case. Positive line in less than a minute. Trip canceled, got Paxlovid, felt better in a few days. Im fully vaccinated so far and plan to get the next one.

(16,988 posts)This is my second time. The first time was a piece of cake, not very sick at all. This one feels worse than that already.

(16,988 posts)It surprised me since I'm asthmatic, but I guess the Paxlovid interacts with some of the other meds I need to take. Sounds like it's hard on the kidneys.

(16,988 posts)The doctor said I could not take Paxlovid due to some other meds that I take due to interactions.

(75 posts)My husband had triple coronary bypass surgery 15 days ago (yes, the day of the debate.) Today he tested positive for Covid. He hasn't been anywhere except the hospital for a post-op visit and his cardiologist's office. The visiting nurse came a couple of days ago. We have managed to avoid Covid for four years! Of course, we found this out on a Friday afternoon. The on-call cardiologist said since my husband was fully vaccinated and boosted, his body should be able to fight this off easily. He has to check his pulse-ox and temperature frequently. Paxlovid is not an option because of the heart medicines. His symptoms are mild. So far, I'm negative.
The expiration date on the tests we received through the post office had passed, but we checked online and the date had been extended by six months.

(19,789 posts)My husband had a bypass in 2019. We hadnt had Covid until January. I tested positive and got Paxlovid. He tested negative and I did everything to avoid him getting it. He tested positive a day or two later. We both had mild symptoms. I got Paxlovid for him but didnt end up giving it to him as Id read for some it extends the symptoms. No mention of interaction with the Metropolol he takes. He then was negative after a week and I wasnt negative until after 3 weeks. Both vaxxed and boosted.
Hope your hubby glides through this with very mild symptoms and will soon be ready for cardio rehab!

(27,200 posts)This why I still wear a mask; indoors outside of my apt, and in crowds outside.
After ? 4 1/4 yrs I've decided if I'm in a big store w good air circulation, hardly anyone in there, and no one is coughing I do take my mask off - put back one at the register, or if I talk to someone.
My one change.

(16,988 posts)I always wear it at work and I've been keeping it on in stores. I have been pulling it down more lately. Maybe I shouldn't have?

(75 posts)Metoprolol, Plavix, Atorvastatin since the surgery. Thanks for the good wishes. Cardiac rehab starts in about three weeks.
I think it's interesting that there are signs in the hospital and doctors' offices stating that masks are strongly encouraged but yet most of the medical staff don't wear them.
Laffy Kat
(16,988 posts)Of course, I got it anyway. Still, I won't stop wearing one. It doesn't bother me.
