Have you ever had alpine strawberries? They're tiny, but man, the burst of strawberry flavor.
You can't get them in stores, and they're really tricky to keep growing unless you can get just the right mix of soil moisture, mulch (the reason they're called strawberries is they grow best over old straw or pine straw) and shade.
Too wet, too hot, not enough straw, straw is too old - they don't grow well. If you don't have them in the perfect environment to begin with (like me; coastal California desert), you have to keep up with them, even when they go dormant.
I managed to keep about ten plants going for about three years; went on two weeks vacation over the summer, and they started getting rusty and died off soon after.
Barely got enough to make a small jar of jam over those three years, problem was they were so tasty, you just had to try one when a few got ripe enough, and poof, they were gone before you knew it.
