Sheesh. Covid uptick in my area.

I was shopping in a plaza across from the local mall. The manager of the store that I was in told me that the JC Penney store in the mall was closed that day and possibly for a few more days because so many employees were out with covid that they did not have enough available workers to keep the store operating.

Our county does wastewater testing and the county health dept posts results of each area in the county, along with any hospitalizations and deaths from covid.

I check the health dept website from time to time because I have some underlying conditions and wear a mask indoors in public places where a lot of people are present.

There are still a few people who get tested at a medical facility so their results get reported to the health dept, but most people do home testing with no official report. So the actual number of infections is under reported in the statistics. The website data is a summary that lags by one or two weeks. I checked it after hearing about Penney's. There were 2 deaths and 15 or 20 hospitalizations for covid across the county. Nothing like the peak periods of a couple years ago. Only about 50 officially reported positive tests, but most people self test so there are no records on them.

I figure that the July 4 holiday and new "flirt" strains are responsible for the uptick.

My county has a low vaccination rate and many of the people who got the original vaccine have not had any boosters.
