Actually I was a kicker. First soccer style my high school had had.
Soccer team too. First year we had it so we got the crappy field.

My entire family of 6 kids all swam. No one could hold a candle to my 2nd oldest sister, she was good.

(72,187 posts)My Dad, who was a superb athlete himself, bullied me into every sport I ever played. T-ball, Little League, soccer, swimming, football, you name it. I distinguished myself only by my utter incompetence in whatever sport I was playing.
My Dad was constantly coming by the practice facilities to talk to my coaches and see how I was doing.
Every coach I ever had said the exact same thing: "Well...he tries hard..."

(72,187 posts)I did finally find something I was good at, because the element of competition was optional: weight-lifting. That and regular cardio keep me in good health, but mean I can avoid humiliating myself in head-to-head competition.

(11,142 posts)Started in middle school. Played through tenth grade. When I decided to become a performer, I stopped risking my body in such endeavors. (My father was NOT pleased about this. He wanted to drag me to the farm and beat the hell out of me, but my mother knew what he was up to and basically told him that was not going to happen.)
I was a defensive lineman... usually the tackle position. My second year, I led the team in interceptions because I learned how to watch the QB's eyes to see if he was going to throw it over me. I would then vault up over my opposite and grab the ball. Never really got to run anywhere, but no matter.
It is the only sport I follow to this day. Well, I kind of follow all football, both international and American. (I only played American, though.) Don't follow much rugby anymore. I should check back into that.

I'm glad I did it, even though I was not much of an athlete. It was an interesting experience.
