I just read an unconfirmed report that our beloved In_The_Wind died sometime in the last year.

It's been almost two years since I spoke directly with her, and I know she was in poor health. I will miss her very much. Please reply if you know any more about this than what I've just reported.

May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest, good friend...

to hope that she has continued issues on that score? I sure would like to think that we have not lost her.

From her profile (a very nice message for all to remember):

About In_The_Wind
Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieve it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night. Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. ~~~~~~~~~ For, it ends in the blink of an eye. Carpe Diem (Seize the day)!

with hope...

I love it so much that I want to post the whole thing here, with the original formatting and credit to the poet!

In honor of In_The_Wind, who I did not have the pleasure of knowing, here it is:

Do not go gentle into that good night
Dylan Thomas 1914 – 1953

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

For a long time, she was one of my besties on DU! In times past, we traded a lot of mails over DU, but I had not heard from her in almost two years. I will really miss her and her sense of humor!

I liked her! I was wondering about her a few days ago.

Sigh.

I found out, a couple weeks ago, that a friend had passed away over a year ago and nobody, nobody who were common friends ever said a word to me and there had been many opportunities to say something. It sucks.

I didn't hear from a close friend on my birthday last year. She had not missed my birthday for more than three decades, in the early years sending cards and gifts, and always a phone call. I knew she wasn't upset with me so I figured she must have been busy/out of town/anything. Nothing. Then I called her on her birthday a month after mine. Went to voice mail. I texted a few days later. No response.

After that, something made me google and to my shock was her picture with her obituary! She died only a few weeks before my birthday. I knew of her son and daughter-in law but I guess they didn't have access to her phone. I am not on Facebook.

It made me so sad. I had seen her maybe a year before that and we had a great visit (she was in another state). Now it feels so strange.

I am sorry you found out the way you did.

But it got me think about it and I really don't know if it's worse to find out like that or to know about it while it's happening.

Emily Dickinson

Adrift! A little boat adrift!

Adrift! A little boat adrift!
And night is coming down!
Will no one guide a little boat
Unto the nearest town?

So Sailors say — on yesterday —
Just as the dusk was brown
One little boat gave up its strife
And gurgled down and down.

So angels say — on yesterday —
Just as the dawn was red
One little boat — o'erspent with gales —
Retrimmed its masts — redecked its sails —
And shot — exultant on!
