(18,186 posts)I have met this guy....
but, no, this is an old, old pro whom I have semi-convinced to come out of retirement.
Whenever I used to try to sit down to play a tune at a gig, he would yell: "If you're gonna pull a party out of your ass, you might as well stand up!"
NOT the cryin' kind...

(3,682 posts)Is he really playing music with you again?
He finally set up his kit, but he has refused to play until he gets a new board.
But an old flame came to town, so he called and asked me to come over and jam ( HA! I wanted to laugh but I grabbed the git and went over there ) so she could see him play again like the old days.
So he's trying to do some faster blues and he is rusty as shit and you know how good he is. So I suggest something slower and he does great an then I try to do another one I thought he knew - sweet little 4/4 love song, nothing big. And he is a pro who of course LISTENS to the song before he plows into it so he is listening and he never joins in. But you know how I am about once the song starts you finish and I am just lost in it trying to remember all the chords and words myself. And then I finish.
An then I hear his old flame say "Are you crying?"
And he is ...I think he was just really emotional... I've made people cry with my hideous voice before - but never ever ever him!!
I said, "What the hell?" an he just said "That is such a beautiful song."
Anyway, I stopped playing and made him put on his old band's last blues CD and he jammed to that.
Old turd...."Kinda defeats the purpose of trying to cheer you up here!" I said.
My "d" key is stuck so pardon any missing d's

(3,682 posts)...and I will be crass enough to hope it might have plucked a few heart strings of the lady he was trying to impress...
She got mad an told me to stop singing "sad songs."
It wasn't a sad song, I don't think, but anyhoo...
he's fine it was just a shock - when you've jammed with someone for years

(8,492 posts)They're the jokers, the socialites, the misfits...and they usually have the biggest hearts. That's why I never dated one, but I gave birth to one (unintentional, I swear). I've always managed to take them under my wing and become their band mama, though.

(18,186 posts)He doesn't drink, and has the most stuff, so he ends up being the only one sober enough to load the equipment and drive everyone home.
Good on you for being the band mama. How I fondly remember my son's heavy metal band practice here...lol
But this old guy is not the emotional sort, so he floored me last night.
When he feels better I will probably tease him unmercifully.
