(29,949 posts)My mom was one that gave out the good stuff. Whole Hersey Bars etc.
So I had all that I wanted. So I tended to want the cheap stuff like a wrapped caramel. I include the raisins in that.
My bully brother always threw his boxes of raisins at me. So I ate them.
Red vines too.

(29,885 posts)I thought they were the best as a child in the 60s, but I didnt eat much candy after I became a teen, and something changed about the Heath bar. It didnt taste as rich and complicated as I remembered. The texture was also less brittle, as the new candy was more chewy. I like crunchy, dammit. Im sure corners were cut, like everything else, and they probably use corn syrup instead of cane or beet sugar. Havent bothered to check, as its so infrequent that do I think about candy at all.

It seems the guy worked at Brach's and was giving each and every kid their very own full-sized box of Brach's Chocolate Covered Cherries! OMG.

(9,072 posts)I hand out the fun size bars but throw handfuls in the bags. If my supplies start to run out, I can do more conservative amounts to stretch them. Then the lights go out.

(27,319 posts)*I think between this particular Hersey Bar, and the occasional dark chocolate candy from a box of chocolates my parents would receive as gifts; is where my addiction 😄 er, love of dark chocolate began! ☝️
Then way later by the time the first Lindt Chocolate Store opened on 5th Ave (NYC) w 72% cacao bars, and the higher end European Chocolate that begins w a "T" we'd get from an older cousin...Good Times! Now there's 85%, and 90%, too!"

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
