(11,142 posts)I have threatened the entire household many times about continuing to bring that stuff home. We have more cutlery and crockery than most people can hold in their house and yet they keep on doing it! And never using it!

(28,493 posts)I ALWAYS say "no cutlery" and I always always get cutlery.
Same with straws. I don't won't use one. Some people absolutely need them. Just ask if we want one.
OldBaldy1701E
(11,142 posts)I have often returned it to them after they gave it to me. Usually with a: "Nope, don't need these." Of course, they have to throw them away once I touched them, even if I am careful to not touch the package with my bare hand. (I usually grab a napkin.) Health Dept. regulations, after all.
that'll be worth something someday ! LOL How old was it ? i still have a character sitting in a metal plane that was a happy meal toy. The Rescuers I think. Do they even have good toys anymore ?

(11,142 posts)Stainless steel or wood. I have a few plastic items but that is because the tool can only be created with plastic. I try to avoid that as well.

(4,671 posts)between sheets of waxed paper keeps the flour from flying all over my kitchen counter and floor - into the InstaPot it goes in pieces to be seared - add plenty of onions and tomato sauce. Cover, bring up the pressure and cook. Serve w/mashed potatoes. Yummy! (To be fair, I used to be able to afford round steak-big slab w/that cute little ring of a bone more often, so there the hammer sits in the utensil holder-not a junk drawer - I've diversified local spots in each, because I don't many drawers available - the kitchenware has taken over.)

(1,931 posts)That wooden mallet is just the thing to loosen the ice that builds up in the chest freezer. Ive even taken it to work because I do pharmacy shipping and the gel packs tend to build up ice so you cant get them out. Weirdly useful item in a big way!
The thing Im pitching is a set of those plastic spoons for Chinese food that look like wee spoon rests. My son got them because hes an impulse shopper and has never ONCE used them. Were on the verge of a move and those suckers are about to fall into a black hole (along with a shit ton of other useless goodies).

(11,850 posts)I went into the organized junk draw and found a tube of Krazy glue that was old and not working.
I also found a hole paper punch that the wasn't working properly. I already have a working hole paper punch and so both items went promptly into the trash.
I honestly wouldn't be throwing away any McDonald's toys, some people collect them and are willing to pay decent money for those items.

(63 posts)I did this a while back. My daughter is 30, I found her Ez bake oven pans! I use them all the time! I live alone so a cake is too much for me. I bake a few small pans, freeze the rest of the batter and bake little cakes when I'm in the mood!

(7,309 posts)Neither of us use them or even know how to use them. But, my wife absolutely won't let me throw them out. She is a kitchen gadget hoarder. We have a professional meat slicer in the pantry that was used once or twice over ten yesrs ago, lol.

(11,850 posts)I have a vintage tall bookcase in my kitchen that holds my glass and metal baking dishes, a crockpot, some clear and stainless steel mixing large bowls.... basically stuff that is used infrequently but it is used.
On one of my shelves of this bookcase, are several file holders that I store craft paint, craft paint brushes, a few sharp kitchen knives with protective covers that I don't want anyone else using or misplacing. I found in one of the file folders, 3 separate cat medications from the year 2016 when our beloved black cat was still alive.
You'll be happy to know that I tossed all the expired cat medications in the trash.

(3,067 posts)We were going through Vancouver and was given a WOODEN spork for my snack. It made my appreciate and love our northern neighbors even more. They walk the walk when it comes to sustainability. We grab plastic cutlery and end up tossing it in a few minutes and it sits in a landfill forever.
They use cutlery that will return to the earth in time. Every time I see that spork it reminds me that we Americans are not as clever as we'd like to believe.
