If I tried to carve a pumpkin I'd probably end up cutting off my hand....

It amazes me that people can even do it....

When my kids were little, there were book stencils available with the carving tools. Most of our pumpkins didn't have faces, they had 3D style Halloween themes that could be stenciled on them, like this....

Today, I have one plastic pre-lit pumpkin. Even though they can be plugged into an outlet, I'll place a small bag of sand inside of it for weight and place a battery operated candle inside. I would buy more, but they take up valuable room.

They have crafting pumpkins too that one can carve and use every year.

I just let them rot on the front porch. By Christmas it will scare everyone away.

We used to, but they stay longer as fall yard decor if you don't poke holes in them and let all that extra oxygen in.
At least, that's how I convinced my wife to not make me carve them!
BTW: It is true that they last longer.

My wife wants to roast the seeds
But, I just take a chef's knife & a rubber mallet to cut the things in halves.
Not much detail work!
