(6,581 posts)I would have to say either Kyle Broflovski or Lisa Simpson. Both characters are written with quite a bit of "heart" for a cartoon series.

(2,825 posts)I never followed the plot lines. I just remember walking into the den right before dinner, and seeing my three brothers watching the show. They were always talking about his MOUTH. Was it a human mouth, or a cartoon mouth-- would be the discussion--nothing about the storyline.
It would go something like, "Yeah, it's a real person's mouth cause I can see a tongue". or "Hey, I saw some teeth!" or "I see saliva!" LOL

Poor bastard never gets a break.
ALL his well laid (?) plans ALWAYS go awry.
Reminds me of us in the 2000 election.
THIS time he REALLY thinks he's got it right.
And then the anvil drops on his head, or the TNT explodes in his hand, or he runs off the edge of the cliff.

..they just .. made cartoons.
This one was released in September 1949..and it still makes us laugh ..and it is just a series of chases..I love em..
hifiguy
(33,688 posts)said something similar. It was just a job that they enjoyed doing. When he saw people laughing just as hard at 40-50 year old Bugs/Daffy/Sylvester/Road Runner cartoons he realized that maybe there had been just a bit more to his work (and that of the other WB directors) than he'd originally thought.
Things that are truly funny are always funny. The Marx Brothers, Laurel & Hardy, the Three Stooges and other classic comedy is just as funny today as the day it was filmed.
HopeHoops
(47,675 posts)hifiguy
(33,688 posts)existentialism. Wile E. represents man's futility in seeking to capture the meaning of life, as represented by the Road Runner. The Road Runner seldom if ever acts affirmatively to frustrate the Coyote, yet faced with failure after failure, Wile E. redoubles his efforts to get the Road Runner.
It's Sartre, not satire.

Hayabusa
(2,149 posts)of their afternoon syndicated cartoon block. They showed family friendly cartoons (as well as Bible education series such as SuperBook and Flying House) and have religious commercials to fill them time in. I guess it was a way to get the Word out to kids in a way that even today I find non-objectionable.
Thing is, one of the cartoons that they showed was DuckTales. I fell in love with the series and the Duck Universe right then, as I missed all of its first run syndication. So I'd have to say that my favorite cartoon character is Scrooge McDuck.
And the video game was awesome...

(55,476 posts)Keep the kids from seeing something offensive...
Hayabusa
(2,149 posts)but this channel's main religious goal it seemed was just to draw attention to their local charitable work. According to Wikipedia, they actually ran secular programming for half the day and even affiliated with Fox Kids and Disney Afternoon (where they got the DuckTales) until our area got a Fox station.
Sadly, the costs got too high, I think and they sold the network to CTN.

(33,688 posts)Who didn't want to be just like Bugs? He was intelligent, witty, and always three steps ahead of Elmer, Sam, or whomever else was giving him crap. Bugs never started a fight but he always finished them victoriously.
Art_from_Ark
(27,247 posts)In Rebel Rabbit, his fight was against the United States, when he learned that the bounty on a rabbit was only 2 cents. He ended up committing all sorts of crimes, including sawing off Florida from the rest of the country, and wound up in Alcatraz.
In another cartoon, Ballot Box Bunny, he is running against Sam for mayor, and he does get the best of Sam until the very end, when they both lose out to the "dark horse" candidate.
And in Hare Brush, Elmer J. Fudd gets the best of Bugs by convincing Bugs to take his place in the sanitarium, where the psychiatrist makes Bugs recite, over and over, "I am Elmer J. Fudd, millionaire. I own a mansion and a yacht," until Bugs himself believes it. Bugs ends up getting taken away by two IRS agents.

She also didn't let me watch Top Cat after a while, because T.C. was always making fun of Officer Dribble, er, Dibble, and that was showing disrespect for policemen and she was worried that that might encourage me to mouth off to a cop.

Plaintiff's Opening Argument in the case of Wile E. Coyote, Plaintiff versus Acme Company, Defendant:
http://www.torinfo.com/justforlaughs/coyote_v_acme.html
"Such injuries sustained by Mr. Coyote have temporarily restricted his ability to make a living in his profession of predator. Mr. Coyote is self-employed and thus not eligible for Workmen's Compensation. "
it was reprinted in the Texas Bar Journal in Federal Judge Jerry Buchmeyer's column.
