(28,705 posts)When I was a little girl every Sunday I would search, and double search the Detroit Free Press' TV guide (remember those?). Usually I'd be disappointed as White Christmas 🎄 wasn't going to be on TV that week. Some years it wasn't televised at all.
As soon as I got my first VCR, I bought myself the tape for $89.99. That was a lot of money! Thank goodness the prices drastically went down!
Today I own 3 DVR copies of White Christmas. All 3 were gifts.
I've already watched it once this season, and will again soon.
I love Bing Crosby. He and Danny Kaye are perfect in it. Irving Berlin's songs, their singing, and dancing, are just beyond awesome to me. 👌
I have no idea why this movie has such a strong affect on me. But it sure does!
At the end of the movie, I tear up and cry when they call "Attention!", and salute the old general. Then a miracle: it snows!
🎶 What can you do with a general
When he stops being a general? 🎶
🎶 Oh, what can you do with a general who retires? 🎶
There are other movies I must see each year, but it's not Christmas without White Christmas.

(53,190 posts)Given that, Lethal Weapon would work if it was set at any time of the year. Die Hard would not as the Christmas season is a central plot point - it's about a Christmas party gone wrong.

(680 posts)Most any version, but I like the Mister Magoo version, especially.
And the 1999 version with Patrick Stewart.

about the one with George C. Scott from 1984. I kind of liked that one as well.

(18,567 posts)... "We're no Angels," the original movie (based on the play) starring Bogart, Aldo Ray, and Peter Ustinov as the convicts and Basil Rathbone as Andre -- hell of a cast. Also not well-received, I must like cheesy movies.

(14,270 posts)It is a foreign film (with notable actors) that depicts an actual event of WWI. Soldiers on the Frontline in the trenches succumbed to the real, mystical goodwill spirit we all should experience rather than helping stores end the year in black ink.
The best part is that descendants of these soldiers get together each year to honor the remarkable event and remind others of the possibilities of extending friendship rather than hate.
I gave all my family members DVD copies several years ago, not that anyone can play DVDs now. I'm sure it is streamed on some platform.
It is well worth watching and learning about.
The true spirit of the season.

(9,991 posts)None of these would technically be considered "Christmas Movies" but they all take place at least in part at Christmas.
Meet Me In St. Louis - Judy Garland singing "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" is one of the greatest scenes in a great movie.
Trading Places - Eddie Murphy's second movie. Both he and Dan Ackroyd are at their best in this movie.
Gremlins - Kind of dark but not overly scary. I know it's generally considered a horror film but I find the comedic elements really funny. Plus Gizmo is adorable.
