-12 Here in central Pa. Turned on the gas heater in the basement for extra heat. I never have a problem with frozen water pipes but I let the cold water drip a teeny bit so that I sleep better.

(6,521 posts)We left the hot water run in the kitchen sink a little to keep it from freezing up. That pipe is closer to the outside than the cold water pipe. Everything seems fine though and tomorrow is supposed to be 17 and then warmer into the weekend.

(26,080 posts)There's a 13 mph northern wind that's so cold!! I know this isn't the low temps of the rest of the country, but then we aren't used to having 30 degree weather during the day either, average daily temp in winter has been in the 50's. We used to get weather like this every year, now it's rare in this climate changed times.

(130,516 posts)with a -30 wind chill, I'm delighted. I can be outside without my face hurting. The great thing about these subzero cold snaps, which we get a few of every winter, is that afterwards anything above zero feels pretty comfortable. 21 is just about warm enough for my mailman to start wearing shorts again.
