(566 posts)Too hard to choose just one but I have a memory of seeing Oklahoma in the theater with my whole family when I was 6 or 7 years old. I was taken with the song Oh What A Beautiful Morning. Deb, I agree with you on Mary Poppins. I love all the songs from it but Feed the Birds is so lovely and poignant.

(2,560 posts)"The Wizard of Oz" is the first movie I ever remember watching. I was 5, it was 1955 and we had just gotten our first television set. It was one of those big wooden console TVs, a piece of furniture, with the picture made up of fat horizontal lines that you could see halfway across the room. CBS showed "The Wizard of Oz" one Sunday afternoon and I was just so fascinated by that movie. I mean, it profoundly affected the 5-year-old me. That movie still moves me now, but on a very much different level. It's a classic.
My other favorite musical is "My Fair Lady". It won Best Picture in 1964 and deservedly so, in my humble opinion. Audrey Hepburn was positively radiant in that movie, as she was in all her movies. I like all the music in that movie, too. Couldn't pick a favorite.
I'm not really much of a fan of movie musicals, though. I like several other film genres much more. But of that specific genre, those two are my favorites.

Anytime Im down or need some escapism watching one of their movies soothes me every time. I can understand how they were so popular in the Depression era.
