(1,510 posts)Tautologies really annoy me because they don't say anything useful.
For instance "I'll get there when I get there". And they're usually used
to blow somebody off.

(28,493 posts)If I never hear "red, green, or christmas?" again I would be ecstatic.
For those of you not familiar with that question: Red and green chile are offered at essentially every meal. If you want both red and green, it's "christmas".
Frankly, neither the red nor green chile here is that good, and doesn't belong on everything.

(29,406 posts)To me, it just sounds clunky and clumsy. Why not say influential or effective?
In health care, my field, to be impacted truly means to be full of shit i.e., badly constipated. That may well have something to do with my dislike of the words, having had to manually disimpact a patient once, early in my career. Once was enough.

(76,706 posts)...a universal substitute for "that being said".
If I use it, it's probably more like saying "in spite of what I just said".
If we were talking Superbowl I might give you the stats & matchups that favor the Eagles.
But, "all that being said" it's hard to pick against the Chiefs.
I guess you could do that with a "but"; that, however, seems weak.
Just a preference I guess.
