I just found my "Car and Driver" December 1990 magazine, in that issue they gave a road test to an East German "Trabant."

4. I kinda' remember those cars (ah..things) They didn't look too bad but the poor things were strange.

No fuel pump. No gas gauge..you had to carry a stick or a piece of curtain rod to see how much fuel you had. The gas tank was above the engine, so the fuel would leak down to the carb. The gears were 3 things ..hard to change...and shitty and shitty. It could get up to 60 mph under a minute. The interior was like a cheap dime-store chair.
