(2,560 posts)Not sure which one was first. Lori Martin starred in a TV show about Velvet Brown, not sure if the name of the TV show was the same as the Elizabeth Taylor movie National Velvet. Lori Martin was said to look very much like Elizabeth Taylor. This was around 1960 and I was about 10. At about the same time the movie The Parent Trap came out starring Hayley Mills in a dual role as identical twin sisters Susan and Sharon. I was equally smitten by both Lori Martin and Hayley Mills. Those movies National Velvet and The Parent Trap are still among my favorites, but the TV show starring Lori Martin didn't last very long and now it almost no longer exists. I just did a search on YouTube and was able to find only snippets of that TV show, except for one apparently full episode that has been colorized. As for The Parent Trap, it's a Disney movie and I don't think I would be able to provide a link to the full movie for free, only snippets. The Parent Trap shows up all the time on TV, but it's always the remake with Lindsey Lohan in the dual role. Why does nobody ever show the original? That Lindsey Lohan remake is pretty good too, but the original of these classics is always the best version.

(2,373 posts)When I was 10 or something my Dad took me along on a shopping spree related to a big party he and my Mom were throwing. He took me in to the liquor store where the transaction took way too long for a kid just discovering the joys of adhd. Wandering around I found an early issue of Playboy among the other magazines. Thumbing through it I was a little surprisedthough not titillatedby the photographic revelations of lady stuff that I wouldnt become interested in for a few more years. But then I saw the center spread. She was nude, of course, and she didnt have nipples or a bush. Her image was, in a way, almost chaste. But those eyes! Not only was she super cute, her eyes were both playful and challenging. Love at first sight. I got busted by my dad and the clerk as I was standing there mesmerized, holding the magazine up over my head, staring at her face, the foldout touching the floor. The clerk said something like, I see trouble ahead! He was right. Ive been a sucker for Betty Page types ever since.

(255 posts)This is getting WAY OFF TOPIC but here goes! lol
About 2 months ago I heard a song and it brought back that connection to my youth, to Levi and most importantly to Janis Ian. The song was "At Seventeen". SO, I wrote Janis and told her how her song affected me then and how Levi was my first crush. Isn't that silly? WELL, JANIS EMAILED ME BACK! She shared a personal story with me (that I want to keep private). I was blown away! I can't believe I've shared my first crush story twice this year since it's been decades that I've given it any thought and two amazing people responded! Janis and YOU! Makes me feel loved!
Thank you!

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
