(4,259 posts)... and he's also one of the best lyricists that ever lived. Billy Joel is a close second on both counts. Lowell George was right up there, too. And John Lennon. And Paul McCartney. And... this really hard. There are SOOO many really good ones.

America - that song reverberated all through 1968 for me
Graceland - while I never had any inclination to visit Graceland it's a great description of traveling with someone to an important destination for that person

(26,856 posts)The Song Pure and Easy... raw, and powerful; but there's a deep, sweet poignant inflection in Roger's voice "the Note is internal, I hear it, it see's me, forever we blended, forever we die...." That 2nd "forever".
Bono... people usually love him, or hate him. But Wow he really grew as a singer!
And while Roger is the leader singer, Pete Townshend has a very sweet voice at times.
These just jump right out for me.
Maybe a couple of others.

(8,893 posts)But i have loved Stevie Winwood through all his many incarnations. He was in the Spencer Davis group, right? Then Traffic, then Blind Faith, then solo? I know I have some of this switched aroundbrain fog is not good. One of my absolute favorite songs ever is Cant Find My Way Home and I think thats his voice. What a guy.
P.S. I just looked it up and he was not even 21 when he wrote that song. There is a later, live version of him singing it with Eric Clapton and it kills me. (Yes, Im irritated with EC on the vax thing but can still enjoy him if I let that go, for that song.)

(4,464 posts)Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Mel Torme, Raul Malo, Jon Pardi, Solomon Burke, Luke Combs, Tony Bennett...so, so many. My fave right now, and it changes as I get tired of the music, is probably Luke Combs.
Last night, I got a wild hair and started listening to Ricky Nelson! Don't even ask me what brought that about, but I was shocked at what a beautiful clear voice he had. I was just a little kid when he was popular, but I remember some of his songs...so much like Buddy Holly in style, but his voice was beautiful. And, of course, he was a pretty man, too!
