Day 4 of COVID

Day two of Paxlovid. The drug is helping but "Paxlovid mouth" is a thing and it's nasty. I guess it's better than feeling as lousy as I did on Wednesday but honestly, this vile bitter metal taste in my mouth - reminds me of cold black coffee still sitting in the pot days later - is almost as bad.

I'm bored out of my mind. I spend hours looking at a snake ID page on Facebook.

My wife offered to leave so I could watch TV which was kind, but I don't feel good about doing that. She's having to walk the dog and do everything.

At least the Paxlovid seems to be helping, even if it's given you a bad taste. I still blame taco for COVID.

-A suggestion, since you have a laptop. Lately, I have become addicted to watching "REACTION" videos to music from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s from Gen-Xers. Some of them are "music producers," others musicians themselves, and others just trying to "expand their horizons."

Honestly, some of these are hilarious, others enlightening, and some just reassuring that at least a few will learn to appreciate the music that has inspired all the rest--as well as the use of instruments, voices, and techniques totally foreign to them today. Some of the younger black rappers doing these reaction videos are both the most expressive and truly amazed at the likes of the Beatles, Pink Floyd, the early music of the 60s (Elvis, Motown performers, Fleetwood Mac, and on and on...

Maybe you'll find them a good way to while away the time, too.

Oh, and despite the insanity of HHS under RFK Jr., it looks like a nationwide oral COVID-19 stage III clinical trial is going on after all, so we can only hope that more/better prevention from future infections will be forthcoming. (I have an advisory role at one site)...

Feel better!

Also, I like the videos made by session musicians breaking down what makes particular songs great.

Oh and that genius who covers famous rock songs "if Mark Knopfler recorded it."

Thank goddess for the internet!

big gay

Watch some mindless, fun shows. I have a list of fun ones if interested. Or, if you like, I can recommend some fun books/podcasts that require no thinking, just fun entertainment.

Podcast worth a listen is Stephen Fry's 'Victorian Secrets". This was really interesting. He has one about Edwardian England, but I haven't listened to it yet.

"The Original Folk and Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm: The Complete First Edition" is fun too and really delves into multiple versions of popular tales. It is one of those books with short chapters, so you can easily put it down without having to find a good stopping point.

"Merlin’s Tour of the Universe, Revised and Updated for the Twenty-First Century: A Traveler’s Guide to Blue Moons and Black Holes, Mars, Stars, and Everything Far" by Neil deGrasse Tyson. If you can listen to it, that is better, IMO.

"What If?: Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions" and "What If? 2: Additional Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions" by Randall Munroe is one of those books that people think up some crazy shit and it is explained how it could work or would never work.

"Hi Honey, I'm Homo!: Sitcoms, Specials, and the Queering of American Culture" by Matt Baume is fun and informative.

"Napoleon's Hemorrhoids…And Other Small Events That Changed History" by Phil Mason is really awesome. It is AMAZING how a small twist of fate can change history! Some parts are really funny.

I have more suggestions. I stayed away form really serious topics because when you are sick, you should rest, not think too much, and be surrounded by things that bring joy, not stress.

As for shows: "FUBAR", both seasons. FUCKING HILLARIOUS!

"Smiley" is a Spanish comedy, sadly, only one season, but it is super cute!

"Poker Face" with Natasha Lyonne is currently in its second season, but it is a really fun show! On Peacock.

"Murderbot" with Alexander Sarsgaard is a riot. It is currently showing on Apple Plus.

Of course, you can never go wrong with anything by Mel Brooks!

If I think of something else, I'll let you know. If you are looking for something specific, ask. You know me, I have likely seen or heard of it, and if not, my husband has (in regard to movies or TV)!

I didn't feel much like celebrating today anyway. This was a pretty extreme way to get out of it though.
