I've always thought the "bi" was the prefix, and the "opic" refers to vision somehow. Lars39 Jul 2025 #1
if it referred to vision, it would be "opTic". niyad Jul 2025 #5

I spent too much time in a medical dictionary when younger.

Wow, and all these years I thought it meant being able to see out of both eyes.

Not that someone being on TV makes them right or an authority but I’ve heard it said that way often.

BIO---PIC seems so obvious.

Myopic, biopic.

The penny dropped when I heard it, luckily before I had any impetus to use it.

My favorite from my life spent working in second hand and antiquarian bookshops was the fellow inquiring about the popular book "Chaos"... rhymed with Taos.

since the "bio" part is from Greek and the "pic" part is from Latin - you just never know what people will come up with.

Bio for biography

pic for picture

Although "bio" is correct, when it is said out loud the "o" stands by itself.

So, IMO, is should be pronounced bi-o-pic.
