13. Butterfly, I had the same feeling when I became a Star Member...

first, some kind soul here on DU gave me a membership. Once it expired, I pinpointed a bit of discretionary funds to buy one for myself. I don't pay to subscribe anywhere else. No place else is worth it, to my mind. Of course I come here to find out what's going on in the world, but more than that... it's the people here who make it worthwhile, IMO. And it goes far beyond just "like minds"... there are excellent critical thinkers here, as well as people across all walks of life with knowledge and experiences they're willing to share. And a better group of cat and pet parents, I don't think you can find anywhere!

There's something for everybody here, beyond the politics. When I'm feeling overwhelmed or disheartened or disillusioned with the current state of affairs, I can turn to so many other forums to get my mind off it, if only for a little while.

because the ads are so unobtrusive. Other sites have ads that cover up text, sometimes many layers. I recommend DU to people all the time. I stress that there is no site generated content. It's user driven. A real soapbox for the public. Thanks DU.
