(4,637 posts)It's a very odd color, but delicious.
I'm going to make that as a cobbler tonight, in fact!

(2,158 posts)If so, I vote rhubarb--with toasty oats and a sprinkle of sugar on top.
Rhubarb is one of those things I miss most about the Midwest. Can't remember the last time I even saw it in Florida, and back then, it was like $6/lb!
Oh, to be able to snap off a stalk and crunch on some right now... *whine*

(14,624 posts)In any form, be it pie, cobbler, or crisp. I like it so much that at least once I remember demanding a peach pie instead of a cake for my birthday. My mom obliged, because my dad also preferred pie (usually cherry or apple) for his).

(785 posts)Rhubarb is the best half the suger is also the way to go. Some people bastardize it with strawberry in my opinion that ruins it.

(39,309 posts)My mom used to make it from elderberries we'd pick, but now I have to order frozen elderberries. I love the combination of the soft apples and crunchy little elderberries. Plus, it makes the pie a fun purple color.

(13,163 posts)I live a mile from one of the most famous Apple stands in the nation here in WNC. They also sell many many fruits and vegetables. Most all grown right here, and all the apples are from their orchards.
They also bake. And ship the goods nationwide.
Open from August 1 until a day after Christmas.
Always a line. Multiple baked goods and pies of every kind. (Apple Cakes are known national wide)
My favorite pie they make is the multi fruit, consisting of 3 apple varieties, blueberries, peaches, strawberries and rhubarb. To die for.
I know the owners well, one year I had them bake the pies in the size of Chicken Pot pies for single peeps like me. Cause I have to eat the whole thing at full size. They stopped that so now I am bake to full size.
I will be in line Friday after this one, for my pie. And try like hell to get out with only that.
If you ever come to WNC and want direction's, DM me. And try them all. You will make it an annual trip.

(29,808 posts)When it comes to pie, I like the crust to be slightly underbaked rather than too brown, and I especially like it when the juice from the fruit filling soaks into the bottom crust.
This is probably un-American, but apple pie, while I like it, would be my least favorite.

(27,326 posts)You know I'm a dark choco-holic so anything else has to be really impressive!
😄
This (back 35 yrs ) then small NYC pie company made it. Had it first at our annual 9th Ave Food Festival. I'd occasionally go get a slice.
Waaay later they really expanded, and it never tasted as good.
Then a very nice chocolate, and fruit, nut pastry shop has this lemon bar. Very tasty!
Wish I liked key lime pie, but too strong for me.
Never had, but just looked up what it supposed to taste like - rhubarb.
