Given the way that some dogs can sense a seizure coming on or even scent out tumors, there have to be all sorts of chemical signals issued by a person in actual physical distress. These animals have been by our sides for millennia; they can pick up physical and behavioral cues to an uncanny degree.

Happy to recommend The Wolf in the Parlor: How the Dog Came to Share Your Brain, by Jon Franklin. The author writes about how humans and canines essentially evolved together. Very educational and enjoyable read.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
