The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsToday marks my official 22nd DUnniversary. ( had lurked for quite some time
before actually signing up). I just want to thank this amazing community for your gifts of friendship, community, solidarity, infomation, arts, trivia. . .in short, for being the amazing and wonderful beings that you are. What little bit of sanity I have left in this new millenium is thanks, in large part, to all of you.
Plese join me in a toast to one of the very best communities on the web. I love you all, (some more than others, of course)!

(12,929 posts)Curiously I googled your username. Found this, FTW:
"Your first name, niyad, creates an independent, forthright, practical nature.
You desire to work on your own or to occupy positions of authority where you have opportunities to organize an area of interest and where your decisions are heeded.
You want to be successful financially and have an interest in investments and stocks.
Being consistent and stable in your nature, you are decisive, capable, and efficient, though not always tactful in expressing your opinions.
Your appreciation of art and music is focused around how to make these activities into viable financial opportunities.
At times, you create misunderstandings with others as it is not easy for you to be diplomatic."

Disclaimer I haven't a clue about any of this, niyad, but it looked like fun. A possibly good idea at the time. Or not. George
niyad
(134,035 posts)The part they got wrong was about finances, especially stocks and investments. Other than that. . how fun!!! I had no idea of the existence of that web site, so now I have a new resource! Thank you again.

(10,609 posts)I guess I missed an anniversary for myself too. I mostly hung out in the lounge when I first started. I still haven't posted much for being on as long as I have. DU was a refuge during the corporate media boner about the god awful war in Iraq.
Congrats!
niyad
(134,035 posts)has been my refuge as well.

(3,284 posts)I also lurked here for a long time before finally taking the plunge and joining. There were some truly viscous flame wars back in the early days.
I also lost some of my time/posts when DU went through the change over to the new version. I had been off at that time and forgot my old username and password. Had to create a new name and password.
Your posts make me glad every day that I did that.
May we get to enjoy many more years of creating good trouble.
niyad
(134,035 posts)worst of the flames. WHEWWWW!!!
I am looking forward to a day when it will no longer be necessary to create good trouble, but until that miraculous day, I am proud to be in such good company!

YOU, niad, are one of the bricks in the foundation of DU. Thank you.
And I'm not sure you've ever been called a brick, but now you have.
niyad
(134,035 posts)lovely compliment.

(134,035 posts)every victory. Time magazine used to regularly post an article with the oh-so-hopeful title, "Is Feminism Dead?", to which my response is, "Not so long as I draw breath!".
Deuxcents
(27,708 posts)Feminism is the radical notion that women are people and at the time, my husband said, I dont get it, of course women are people! Over the years, I think he got it!

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
