(29,885 posts)It took a long stretch well into adulthood for me to realize that beets werent pure poison. I love em now, but back then, I would have sooner eaten a June bug than a bite of beets.

Funny story... I used to slip them off the plate and give them to the dog under the table when nobody was looking. One night after dinner, as we were all in the living room watching tv, the dog came in and puked up all my lima beans right in front of everyone!! OOPS busted!!!

(12,093 posts)I didnt eat lima beans, and I threw up the one time we had Brussel sprouts. Oddly, I like Brussel sprouts now, but roasted, not boiled or steamed.

(6,074 posts)I used to gag from the texture of mashed or baked potatoes. I got over it in adulthood. My Mom had it from Beans like baked beans.

(14,307 posts)Our frozen vegetables were peas or corn, and perhaps frozen spinach in paper blocks, and the rest were fresh and cooked. To this day, as an adult, I have never bought frozen mixed vegetables. Just in case you were including canned, the only canned vegetable we ever had was creamed corn. I was born in Canada and my mother's parents were both from England so that British influence was definitely a factor.

(11,927 posts)(I suspect my father wouldn't eat them.) I really disliked canned yams and beets. Actually, I'm still not fond of canned vegetables in general, except beans and artichoke hearts - I like those.
It seems like we ought to have had more fresh or frozen vegetables available back in the day, but we didn't.

Corn, carrots, potatoes, iceberg lettuce.
That might be it.
