(4,540 posts)My brother was in Viet Nam and he had a girlfriend here in the states named Sherry. We all had spent many hours funning on the beaches in Galveston. I was a romantic child and could just see him staring across the ocean remembering the times he and Sherry spent on the beach. I still love the song to this day. And I still love those beaches. No matter how commercial the town of Galveston gets, the beach remain beautiful and never changing.

(584 posts)St. Louis Blues by W. C. Handy. In 1943, Glenn Miller and the Army Air Force Band recorded St. Louis Blues March while serving in World War II. A little over a year later, tragically, his plane disappeared over the English Channel and he was later declared dead. They never found any trace of the plane wreckage. He was only 41 years old.

Here's a favorite, by the only band that mattered:
When they kick at your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun
When the law break in
How you gonna go?
Shot down on the pavement
Or waiting in death row
You can crush us, you can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
Oh-oh, the guns of Brixton
The money feels good
And your life you like it well
But surely your time will come
As in Heaven as in Hell
You see, he feels like Ivan
Born under the Brixton sun
His game is called survivin'
At the end of the harder they come
You know it means no mercy
They caught him with a gun
No need for the Black Maria
Goodbye to the Brixton sun
You can crush us, you can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
Oh-oh, the guns of Brixton
When they kick at your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun
You can crush us, you can bruise us
And even shoot us
But oh-oh, the guns of Brixton
Shot down on the pavement
Waiting in death row
His game was survivin'
As in Heaven as in Hell
You can crush us, you can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
Oh-oh, the guns of Brixton
Oh-oh, the guns of Brixton
Oh-oh, the guns of Brixton
Oh-oh, the guns of Brixton
Oh-oh, the guns of Brixton
