There are nearly 20 more buds on the 3 zucchini plants I have in the garden, but these 3 were ready to pick.
I'm fairly certain I'll have some eggplant this week. The tomatoes are taking their time ripening.

(39,703 posts)I wish I had been better about pruning the tomato plants as they came up. I have no doubt that we'll get some, but it looks like they're going to be somewhat small.
And the plants are crazy heavy.
It's a learning experience.

(5,616 posts)I just found this youtube video about making them. I always used bolt cutters to cut the wire, and this guy uses a small grinder. But he clamps them together with 'pig rings'. I never heard of them. I just folded over the ends of the wire to close the cages, being careful not to let the ends stick out where they might poke out your eye!

squash, and jalapenos, and basil, and tomatoes! Super thrilled, since our garrden was nearly flattened by a nasty hailstorm on July 4!
Enjoy! and thank you for sharing!

(39,703 posts)Evidence suggests we'll have plenty of tomato and cilantro.
Maybe I can use the zucchini to barter for some jalapeno.

(39,703 posts)Unfortunately the eggplant plants we purchased to put into the ground were not labled "Japanese eggplant" (which is what they are) so we ended up growing eggplants that are too small for that.
