He Hid a Camera in the Michigan Woods Let's See What He Got!

Captured in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The channel's name is Wild 906, which is the area code for the UP.

I was surprised to see a opossum. I didn't know they were so far North.

6. 'Possums don't fare well in bitter cold areas.

It may be dated information… things may be changing as the climate warms… but the range map for possums doesn’t show the as far north as even Traverse City MI, and absent from the UP. Completely absent from MN and WI, where winters are colder than in Michigan. They are present in the southern edge of Ontario.

My guess is that this camera was somewhere in middle northern lower peninsula (area code is 906 there, too), not in the UP.

Although there have been a few unconfirmed reports of them in the LP in the last few years.

Although (unless assisted), I would think that one or more wolves would be much more likely than possums to cross the iced-over straights of Mackinac (5 miles).
Wolves have been known to cross iced over Great Lakes before (Ontario to Isle Royale, about 25 miles).

4. Today I learned that...

The majority of animals see fallen logs as a pathway rather than an obstruction. The deer jumped over it, but every animal from a mouse to a bear gravitate to walking on the log rather than on the forest floor.
