Word for the day

threnody (THREN-o-de)
(noun)
a lament:
refers to a wailing ode, song, hymn, or poem of mourning composed or performed as a memorial to a deceased person. The word is derived from a Greek word meaning "dirge"; in essence, a sad song/poem expressing lamentation for someone who has died.
EX: Elton John's "Candle In The Wind" is a brooding threnody to famous people in general, and Marilyn Monroe in particular.
