I am a fan of Old Trapper Hot & Spicy.
I've been buying at the same store for years.
For the past year, it's been $11.99 for the 10 ounce bag.
Today, it was $20.95! A 74.7% increase since last week.
Hard pass.
No tariffs involved, as it's made in Oregon.
I found this astounding.

(77,670 posts)On the Old Trapper site, I could buy a box with twelve 10 ounce bags for $216.
$18 a bag, direct from the manufacturer.
That's ridiculous. Were they importing 100% of the beef?

(77,670 posts)...the nearest Costco is 20 miles away. I'll spend $4.50 in gas to save $6.

(77,670 posts)Old Trapper had to do this hike, because it's $18 a bag on their site but I'd have to buy 12.
I expect when inventory gets replenished Amazon will raise price too.

Yeah, no doubt it's not the same, exactly, but probably close enough. If nothing else, you'll now what really went into the food ...

(26,518 posts)w/ the higher tariffed items in their stores. Be sure to flag all of the offenders for the rest of us DUers, I don't want to support these sorts of rip off artists.

(77,670 posts)I checked Old Trapper's website. Buying directly from them, it's $18 a bag if you buy a box of 12. So, $216.
I like beef jerky, but not that much.

(233 posts)While not as bad as your example, a half gallon of 2% organic milk at my local St. Louis grocery (Schnucks) went from $4.99 last week to $5.89 today - an 18% increase.

(56,978 posts)that is the main reason beef is high this year. also imports from Mexico are shut down due to screw worm flies.

(1,565 posts)$13.99 for 10oz there, meanwhile the local Jewel-Osco wants $18.49 and that's on sale.
BTW, the Meijer price is also on sale but only $1.00 off.

(77,670 posts)It's not that important. I'll burn $4 in gas to save $7, but spend 45 minutes in the car.
