(10,143 posts)They were WONDERFUL. There was an Affy Tapple factory near me but it closed and the product disappeared at least locally. Used to sell them at the checkouts at the A & P, Mom would get me one as it was healthy (an apple!)

(10,143 posts)When I was a little kid. Just did a deep dive into the wilds of Google. The brand was started in Chicago and they wanted to expand east so they opened a place near Allentown in 1955 (a little before my time). The plant closed in 1976 and the building is now an auto parts store. Good to know they still make them somewhere.

(77,292 posts)But, in the town where I grew up, there was a fine candy joint (made all their own candies) that sold fantastic caramel apples in the fall.
One of their versions had whole pecans on them, not ground peanuts. I preferred them plain to the peanut coated, but the ones with pecans were fantastic.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
