(14,307 posts)I made some pizzas with sweet caramelized onions sitting above a spicy tomato sauce, and then topped with sliced mushrooms, mozzarella, chopped bell peppers, some olives, basil and voila! My husband's had added handfuls of Canadian bacon slivers on top that crisped along the edges. He made plenty of grunting noises while chowing down!

(14,307 posts)We use a large pizza stone on our large outdoor grill and make pizzas from scratch. I don't know any chains that make really good pizza.

(683 posts)I also like to add arugula after the pizza comes out of the oven.
And anchovies.
There used to be a place near me called Everything But Anchovies. And of course they actually had anchovies. If you ordered anchovies, they would just give you a small tin to add onto your own pizza.
Best regards,

(37,210 posts)But I also like ham and pineapple, too! My wife and I usually order pizzas with half Hawaiian and the other half mushrooms, olives, and sausage. We also prefer New York style thin crust pizzas.
Not long ago, a bit hangry, I visited a random pizza parlor nearby that advertised slices for sale. They had a twofer deal for two slices and a drink. I'm usually a two slice guy, so I ordered that, not realizing that I had wandered into deep dish pizza hell. The massive square casseroles they handed me were each a full day's worth of food, lol. I couldn't even finish one of them, let alone two! If I can't fold it, or pick it up by its crusty edge, it isn't pizza!

(8,607 posts)There's a local place that sells a pizza they call the SEXY SHEIKH. It has pepperoni, jalapeno and cream cheese. The cream cheese is cut in little cubes (1/2" or so) which melt into little blobs. Those little blobs are big explosions of melty goodness.

We got extra cheese, onion, green peppers & mushrooms. No meat needed for us.
We ALWAYS get extra cheese.
I'm big on sauce but this joint uses enough, otherwise I'd order extra sauce, too.

(1,492 posts)besides the basic tomato sauce and cheese. I like to add pepperoni, olives, onions, green peppers, and sausage.
I have tried pineapple on a combo and it wasn't bad but not one that I'd want to eat regularly.

(1,595 posts)I'd go with pepperoni, pineapple, green peppers and anchovies, but sausage would work as well.
Also. on this one, the green peppers are best if sliced just thick enough to still be a bit crunchy and fresh tasting.
A great salty/sweet combination.

(12,601 posts)Otherwise pepperoni and black olive.
I had a great flat bread the other day at Kennett Creamery - pepperoni and hot honey!

(28,074 posts)My favorites are White Pizza, and Sicilian.
On a regular, or maybe on Sicilian as well thin red onions and/or crumbled sweet Italian sausage. Idk if anyone ever offers caramelized onions but I'd take those!
I guess I could add thin red onions to white pizza, too.
Come to think of it (prompted by a poster) there was one independent pizza store in my old nabe that added fresh chopped garlic to their white pizza. Yuuum! 😄🧄😄
Luckily I just had a midnight snack, it's 2:45AM so when I go to sleep soon -
I won't be staring at the ceiling going "I want pizzzaaaa"! 🥺 😄 🍕 😄

I'm pretty much fine with anything else. Favorite? Hmm. Italian sausage, I suppose. Some pizzerias will crumble meatballs over a pizza; give me that and mushrooms and I'm in heaven. And I'm from Chicago; deep dish and thin crust are both just fine. I want actual tomatoes in the sauce if it's deep dish. Lou Malnati's does it well.
