TELLER: How would you like that?

ME: Two Benjamin Franklins, one C-note, one Andrew Jackson, four George Washingtons.

TELLER: What's a C-note?

ME: A hundred-dollar bill. Remember your Roman numerals? C is the Roman numeral for 100.

I wanted to ask the guy: "You work for a BANK and you don't know what a C-note is?" But I was afraid I would offend the guy or hurt his feelings.

This is the second time I have encountered a bank teller who didn't know what a C-note is. What kind of education are bank tellers getting that nobody tells them what a C-note is?

I note you asked for "Two Benjamin Franklins, one C-note ..."

That would be a little confusing, since the Ben Franklins are $100 bills and that would seem to pre-empt the possibility of a C-note being the same, for someone trying to decipher your (rather outdated) slang.

Maybe best to avoid slang in business transactions, especially in a contract -- you could end up buying stolen property, or selling your wife.

3 one hundred dollar bills. Framing the request that way sounds like YOU don’t know what a cnote is. Most people ask for the same thing per category. I would never ask for two cups of joe and a mug of coffee. If I did I think the server would be correct to double check I wanted three servings of coffee. I think it was very courteous for the teller to clarify the request and ensure you got what you wanted. Great customer service

It was because he genuinely did not know what a C-note is. Which seems to odd to me. He's a bank teller. He ought to know what a C-note is. Which was the point I was trying to make when I posted this.
