We traveled to LA back in the 70s -- it was our first time seeing armadillos. They weren't found further north then. eppur_se_muova Sep 2025 #10

We had a pair of armadillos dig a nest under our lanai (I’m in FL, so these are 9-banded armadillos) and eventually emerged with four little ones. They were ADORABLE, and fearless. It was really sad when they grew old enough to venture out of the back yard and head into the vacant lots across the street, but it was a privilege to be able to see them grow up.

I read that armadillos have made their way into Michigan so I hope to meet one someday.

They sure have been spreading rapidly ever since. Can you guess why ?? Hint: it's due to a fraud !

That’s what kept me from touching them when they’d come close…They didn’t make it easy, though!

They are on the run!

I think they either have poor hearing or poor eyesight.

Yet, I don't think I could bring myself to pick Frank up. There's something about their undersides that gross me out. I do think they are very cute, though. Down south where I grew up, we called them possums on the half-shell.
