His earliest role I've seen was a 1963 episode of The Untouchables. Redford played a guy young enough to be a college student who made a deal with Frank Nitti: Nitti would supply him with booze, and he'd sell it on college campuses. Worked out pretty well for awhile.
Come to find out, it was Redford's 23rd tee vee or film appearance, so he'd had the opportunity by then to develop some acting chops. But, damn, the guy was great even when young.

(596 posts)it when I was a kid. I recognized him in an episode of Perry Mason on a rerun cable channel a couple of years ago. I have seen a lot of the movies he was in. One of the first movies he directed was The Milagro Beanfield War which is not all that well known, but a favorite of mine.
