Good morning, Jimmy.

Went to the doctor's this morning.

Was walking down the hall to go to the little room, and this gentleman, probably well into his 90's, was standing in the hallway, talking to a doctor.

The guy looks at me as I walked by, and said "Good morning, Jimmy".

I said "Good morning, but I'm not Jimmy".

He said "I figured that, but I call everyone Jimmy".

One straight up "Jimmy" and 128 others, including "Jimmythesquid" and JimmydaRustler."

I gotta tell you... "JimmyCharms" has a certain ring to it.

My best friend is actually named Jim. I call him Jimbo or Jimmy.

He assigns nicknames to everyone, and he's given me several. He never calls me by my real name. He most commonly calls me "Luca", after Luca Brasi in the Godfather movie.

I also knew a guy who slapped perfect nicknames on everyone. A very big mutual friend got "Lenny", but my favorite was a guy called " Snack bar."

than if he said, ‘good morning, Aloysius’.

In a previous life I did a gig with a non-emergency ambulance service, transporting patients hither & yon, when my meanderings once took me to a garden-variety nursing home. I had to wait outside the room while the patient was made ready. In the hallway, an elderly man sat in a chair near the door, ardently and repeatedly informing me that he wanted an 18-year-old girl. I asked if he needed help with cooking & cleaning, but he didn’t appreciate my attempt at humor.

Your story reminds me of another...

My mom was in a nursing home.

My mother was the type of person who, once you got on her bad side, it was all over for you.

I was walking down the hall to visit my mother.

An old Italian woman in a wheelchair was parked in the hallway, close to my mom's room.

I said hello to the woman as I walked by.

She grabbed my sleeve and stopped me.

She said in broken English..."Your mama...she no like me".
