Broke a toe earlier today.

I usually break a bone every other year or so, always a trivial break. Even when I break a bone in my arm it will be a trivial break, and I haven't even had to wear a cast the last couple of times I did that.

This is not a complaint, just an observation. I recognize how incredibly fortunate I am that the breaks are always as minor as they are.

1. If you don't mind, how did you break the toe? I've never broken any bones ..

but, have fallen several times in my life. (My wallet has been broke but that's another topic)

4. I simply crashed the foot into something: door, chair, wall.

In fact, I don't always pay attention to what I'm doing or where I'm walking.

Again, it's a trivial break, and I can figure out it's broken because one, it hurts; and two, it's turning blue. I was thinking just yesterday that I was about due for another broken toe. I did have a minor break of some bone in my left shoulder back in January, and I did have that one xrayed, but didn't need a brace or cast or anything.

Not saying it's bad or anything. It's like I've seen another color.

I am very aware that most people don't have a broken bone every other year or so. I know I'm a bit odd. At least I'm used to it, so all I go is "darn!" when it happens once more.

Another interesting thing is that I've always considered that I have a very low pain threshold, mainly because of painful and incompetent dental work in my youth. However, I've had nurses totally amazed that I could walk standing perfectly upright mere hours after a C-section. Apparently that's not very common.

But I do want to emphasize that my bone breaks have never been serious.

I don't take chances with my mobility, I had the x-ray and wore a boot for a few weeks

5. Sounds like yours was a much more serious break.

I am very fortunate that all such injuries to me have been minimal.

l went on-line to look up metatarsal, because while I vaguely knew the word, didn't appreciate how major a foot bone that one is. I can only offer sympathy and appreciation that you sought out appropriate care.

8. Ouch. I broke my little toe once, I ran into the front corner of the chest freezer.

My little toe went one way, my other toes went the other way. My little toe was sticking straight out, perpendicular to the others like you can do with your thumb. My mom sat down on the floor and poked it a couple of times to see if it would go back the right way. We laughed so hard, I was crying laughing. My whole foot on that side felt numb, so it didn't hurt. Then I drove us to the local ER (we still had a hospital then) where they x-rated it and gave me a plastic glove with ice in it. They wrapped the fingers of the glove around my lie and foot and after they left the room I used the fingers to wave at my mom and say silly stuff to make her laugh. That was about 35 years ago. She's been gone 32 years and I really miss her.

12. Had A Lateral Metacarpal Fracture Once

Was playing basketball and got undercut.
I could jump awfully high so I had a long way to fall.
To catch myself, I put my arms out, but for some reason I had my left had close in a fist.
So, basically I punched the floor.
It hurt a lot when it first happened & a few hours.
X-ray showed about a 1" hairline crack parallel to the line of the bone.
But, they don't cast that injury. Just taped the hand up tight and told me to avoid contact on that hand.
A couple days later it was like it never happened. It was hard to stay low activity since it quit hurting, but I was a good boy about it.
Other than a couple ankle sprains (also from basketball), and a cut that needed a few stitches, I've never had an injury requiring medical attention.

14. I broke my upper humerus

one time, a toe... another time my tailbone (from falling down the stairs and when I went to the ER and was askied what the problem was, i said "I BROKE MY ASS! ) (I have a real talent.)

Again, I do this so frequently that I find it quite amusing.
