as Bush's laissez-faire economy tanked the local Walmart had Hershey's cherry cordial kisses marked down to 69 cents a bag. I bought a bunch.

If you have expertise in an subject and you live in a wealthy area shopping thrift shops can really pay off. I have a German friend who found a huge painting at a local thrift shop. The painting wasn't valuable but the frame was covered in enough gold that he got $6,000 for it. And that was before the dollar dropped, raising precious metals prices.

A 7 foot steal rocket that came from a put-put corse for $100. Thought would e a good draw. Sold the first day for $250
Bought a wristwatch for a dollar that worked. Turned out it was 14k gold Swiss. Made a nice profit on it.

I think it cost me $2 at the swap meet. I have it in my bowling bag and I'll sometimes pull it out when we're doing bad to encourage us to bowl better. It usually gets a laugh.

Sometimes I develop my own film and scan it, but I do miss the photo counter at Costco.

I also managed to fill out my Atari 8-bit collection years before that stuff became collectible, when it was just obsolete junk.
