I had my yearly mammogram about a month ago and they found something "suspicious." Now, there's been something "sketchy" in one of them since my mid-20s that turned out to be nothing so I never thought anything about it. This time it was the other one. I got a couple of letters telling me I'd better get it checked out ASAP but I'd already made the appointment for tomography and ultrasound. Still, they were unnerving.
So, for the last month, I've been stressing about it. I had the appointments for the tests today. The tech doing the ultrasound was somber and spent a lot of time on the test. Then she soberly told me that a radiologist would come in to discuss the "next steps, if any." So I'm sitting there, wondering if I should start making arrangements for the care of my cats, etc. Five minutes later she comes in all nonchalant, saying, "Meh, it's nothing. You're good until next year." It was blah blah blah and I'll show you to the exit. Have a great day!
Huh. There was a cloud over practically the entire month of October (which is my favorite month) for nothing?
And I'm not even mad about it.
Whew!

(1,406 posts)to their patients anxiety about the outcome of their tests. That aloofness becomes more universal every year.
Thankfully, your high standards, compassion, and empathy for others both two and four legged are head and shoulders above so many professionals who have an impact on the lives of others every single day.
Congratulations on your test results!! Your DU family is here for you, and for each other.

(1,598 posts)he was very positive about my outcome even though I was at stage 4B of 5! Eleven and a half years later, I no longer have a prostate gland, and his positive outlook turned out to be accurate.

(59,877 posts)When it was my wifes turn, at age 49, it WAS cancer. Because she has/had second class (sort of tourist class) health insurance, even though a malignancy was detected, she was put in line, and told to wait six months while they found her an operation time slot. She was only 49, and the cancer grew aggressively while she was waiting. She survived the operation, the chemo, the radiation and the rehab, but she suffered terribly, and unnecessarily. She is a fighter, and she received unwavering support from our daughters, her mom, her friends, and, of course, me. But it was no picnic, although it was good preparation for the next time she had cancer, the second time being a form of cancer known here as the murderer. It is called that because it spreads quickly and silently, only showing itself when it is too late to save the patient. She was that one out of maybe ten thousand in the last two decades to survive it, due to a completely accidental discovery in its initial stage.

(37,547 posts)...one of her breasts.
That was a pretty long four hours of my life.
It was nothing it turned out, a benign cyst.
Congrats.
You are absolutely right to not be mad about it.
My sister-in-law had no such luck. She did have cancer. Her world class surgeon saved her breast and excised the tumor. She's a ten year survivor in remission.
Congratulations again, and once more, again, congratulations. Keep those cat shows coming.

(1,552 posts)He had to wait for a couple of months to get in for a colonoscopy. It was so hard--my husband lost his father to colon cancer and he was reliving that, too. So sorry you had to go through that, catbyte. So happy for you that you are okay!
