(38,034 posts)Lots of ohhhs and awwws. Had 33 kids from 6:20 to 7:30.
I had a balls, lots of my dad jokes. Parents left happy and thankful.
I had a ball, wearing my Groucho glasses and Dairy Doo ball cap.
Looking forward to next year. But, might make it half dollars.

(278 posts)They close down the street for Halloween. 👻 Its wild - trick or treaters, live music, popcorn machines, adult beverages. I dont bother getting candy because everyone heads over there. My first year, I had tons of candy and waited but no one came 😞.

(797 posts)During the 47 years we've lived at this house, the total number of trick-or-treaters remains steadfastly at zero.

(1,039 posts)I don't expect any tonight. No children live in my small rural neighborhood and I don't expect any to be driven over here. Not enough houses to make it worth while.

(81,697 posts)Kids in the Memphis region don't trick or treat. Prob afraid to knock on doors or eat what they might be given.
Very strange region.

(12,121 posts)On average we generally received only 3.
There's a half hour left on the trick or treat hours.

(77,270 posts)It was pretty busy from 5 to 6. Probably got 90% of trick or treaters in that hour.
Since then only a few.
Really nice weather for it, too. I expected a bigger turnout.

Our house is in a very rural area of the Catskills and it is no good for trick-or-teating. The houses are pretty far apart, there aren't sidewalks and it's dark at night.
We contributed to the local community center for their kids Halloween party last weekend and we bought a "goodie bag" from the high school kids ($25 for the food pantry).
When I was a teenager, my friends and I dressed up and trick-or-treated for Unicef. Good times!

(29,786 posts)We had M&Ms, Reese's PB cups, mini milk chocolate bars that I get from my UU church because they are fair trade and no child labor involved, and Skittles for those allergic to peanuts. There are always a few peanut-allergic kids, and they are typically very pleased that someone has thought about that.
Our cats beat feet into the basement everytime someone knocked on the door, so they got a fair amount of exercise this evening.

(5,552 posts)Also the road I live on is not really conducive to safe walking especially for kids. We have a speed limit of 45 mph which barely anyone follows, and only one couple in the houses closest to me have a child. So I have zero trick or treaters.
The road was much safer when I was little and there were several of us kids, but we never had many trick or treaters. I asked some of the neighbors I rode the bus with why, and they said it was because they were afraid of our German Shepherd at the time, even though he never bit anyone.

(61,679 posts)dressed as a Power Ranger --can't remember the color. It snowed and he fell down the front steps of our porch. We took him to the ER and he spent Halloween there. BUT he had all the candy we were supposed to give out.
Happy Halloween.

(1,372 posts)Twenty years ago I got probably 30 - 40 of them but today, nada. I did buy some M&Ms for the 15 month little boy in our condo complex. His mother took him and three of her friends young kids Trick-or-Treating about 4 pm and I made sure to gie them some candy. In our small city, the businesses in a four bloc area give out candy from 3:30 - 7:30 pm and that's where most of the parents take their kids. We do have one street that closes off both ends of the street so kids can Trick-or-Treat safely.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
