I have a beautiful grandson, who is autistic. He is about to graduate from high school as a National Merit Scholar, but his autism limits his options. He is a homebody and is not in the mainstream of society. I hope America has room for him.

On art and suffering, I am reminded of that great scene in the movie Billy Elliott where he is auditioning for the Royal Ballet School and someone asks him what it feels like when he dances. He answers, "I disappear." To me, that totally nails the artistic experience. Whether creating great art or viewing it, we disappear. When I see a Van Gogh painting, I disappear, and I bet he felt the same when painting them. When I hear this song, I also disappear. Thanks for postiing!
