9. My mom used to save bacon grease

After frying bacon or cooking something in bacon grease, she'd pour the grease into a strainer over an aluminum container to keep the lumps out. Then, she'd put the lid on the container and put it in the refrigerator for later use. This was back in the 50s to the 70s before people started figuring out bacon grease and fats weren't good for us.

I've got to admit, it did make the food taste better.

I mix it with canola oil sometimes when I fry things. It adds flavor. I always save the fat when I cook bacon.

keep it next to stove, only thing is we hardly ever make bacon anymore. mostly for BLTs occasionally. but a whole sheet pan of bacon refills the can pretty well in one shot.

I have had people ask me about the chrome can on the stove, and when I tell them it is for grease, they just look at me.

Yeah, enjoy that breakfast I made with it while you make faces because I have a can of grease on the stove. LOL.
