I remember seen on in the early 60s when I was living in Connecticut

I was about 14 years old playing with my younger brother in the back yard when a meteor flew across the sky. It was fairly low in the sky, about the level an airliner would travel. There were two pieces of the meteor. The first one was the leading meteor burning bright and just behind it was a smaller one burning just as bright. The entire show took about five seconds. I ran into the house and told my father about it. The thought I saw a jet, he being a WWII Navy pilot, and dismissed it. Later, on the SIx O'Clock news on TV they were talking about a meteor that shot across three states. I still remember seeing that meteor in my mind today.
