I think It’s a wonderful life, but definitely not Die Hard. It is not about car racing. I always liked Bruce Willis action movies

4. It takes place at Christmas time, at the Nakatomi Christmas party if I remember correctly.

That said, I’ve never thought of it as a Christmas movie. It’s an action/shoot ‘em up movie.

5. There's a Christmas rom-com with the theme of if "Die Hard" is a Christmas movie, "Love Hard."

I liked it because the lead is comedian Jimmy O. Yang, it's a cute movie. (Most of the Christmas movies YouTube has been throwing at me are those terrible Hallmark or similar generic romances, although it does provide lots of jobs for generic actors to bring home the bacon.)

Of course, it takes place during the holiday season, but that is almost immaterial to the story.
If they had made it happen around the 4th of July holiday, it would be the same movie.

13. Agree with you, ProfessorGAC. If "Rocky " was filmed with Christmas music playing, would Rocky be a Christmas fillm? NO

Setting is just a small part of the theme, and plot of a film. I have to add I started a thread where I stated that The Sound of Music was my favorite Christmas movie. Except for one song, it is not a Christmas movie but one I enjoy watching at Christmas time.

7. Yes, as is Lethal Weapon. Both storylines happen in the midst of Christmas rituals.

Also, The Adventures of Robin Hood (the original, with Errol Flynn and Olivia de Haviland) can be a Christmas movie, too. It doesn't happen during Christmas but it was run on teevee so much on Christmas Day that it acquired the aura.

11. One of the earliest scenes is Riggs debating unaliving himself

You can't get much more Christmasy than that - drinking and depression go hand in hand with the "joys" of the season. Everyone else is celebrating, and Riggs is a one-man grinch of destruction, but gets redeemed in the end. I contend now and always will that it IS a Christmas movie, and a pretty good one at that. AND, Mel Gibson was still handsome but wasn't bat guano insane when he made it too, so that's a plus.

And, no, it isn't a Christmas movie. Now, its sequel Die Hard II seems more like a Christmas movie to me. Maybe its the snow in II and the complete lack of snow in I?
